Sizing your shoe

Every shoe fits a bit differently. Quoddy shoes are made with moccasin construction that surrounds your foot in leather with hand stitching holding it together. This means that very quickly your shoe will adapt to the shape of your foot – they feel as if they were made just for you!

The most important size consideration is length. To get the proper Quoddy fit, we suggest that you survey the sizes of your most comfortable shoes and use this as a starting point. The most universal guide tends to be athletic brands ; Nike, adidas, New Balance, etc.

In our experience, if you have a Nike running shoe in size 10, order a size 9 ½ in a Quoddy shoe. In other words, always size down ½ size. This rule of thumb works with most running shoe brands.

To take it one step further, you can measure your foot and compare the results to the above information. The attached PDF document shows you how to convert sizes, and how to measure your foot and convert that into a shoe size. If your measurement indicates a smaller size than the running shoe comparison, always go with the larger size; more room is always better than not enough!

Finally, you can always email or call us and we will be happy to help. Having to return a pair of made-to-order shoes because of a size issue is a disappointment and inconvenience for you, so we advocate taking a little time in the beginning to help ensure a perfect match.

A word about widths: All Quoddy shoes use moccasin construction – your foot is surrounded in just leather and stitching. This construction is naturally very accommodating to the width of your foot, so a standard width works very well for most people. If you normally wear shoes that are very narrow or very wide, please consult the below table:

Your current shoe Width
Recommended Quoddy Width Selection
Mens B Narrow
C Narrow
Mens EE, EEE
Womens A, AA
Womens D, E

Again, if you still have questions, please email or call us – we can accommodate most modifications that you may require.
